(2004-02-09) Mailing list problems?

I'm getting hundreds of old (but recent) ML/NG messages. I don't think
I'm getting any new ones. What on earth is going on? Does the gateway
software use continuations or something? ;>

Uggh! 457 new ruby talk messages this morning.

Is somebody working on this?

I checked the newsgroup yesterday, and I got near 80 msgs this
morning. Seems normal to me.

We are talking about the mailing list, rather than the newsgroup. I read all
my mail before geing to sleep last night, and this morning had 457 odd new
ruby messages, almost all are repeats of previous messages.

I assume something bad happened/is happening with the newsgroup<->mailing list
gateway

Your Assumption is right. I checked the logs, and it seems that the News -> Mail Job
lost track of the Xref's it had already seen several times.

I'm digging in the code atm (thanks god it's written in Ruby), and I hope it'll be
fixed soon.

Kind regards,
Dennis Oelkers

In the meantime, people using mutt can delete the duplicates with
T~= <enter> ;d

I just found out :).

eban stopped the torrent. Thank you very very much.

We must prevent the similar incident. We should move ruby-talk ML
to members only (not allow posting via comp.lang.ruby gateway)
next time.

Ok, the problem now seems to be permanently fixed after I found the error.
Sadly the script ran amok 1h ago and resent duplicates of ~50 mails.
Sorry for that.

Kind regards,
