Accessing datasource/jdbc in ActionForm of Struts

In Action class we can access datasource like
javax.sql.DataSource dataSource =
super.getDataSource(request);
myConnection = dataSource.getConnection();

Is there any API to access Datasource in ActionForm? As there are some
form validations which I want to do ActionForm
Or is it totally bad idea to do DB validation in ActionForm and I
should do them in Action itself ?
