adding music samples to website?

Can someone give me some info on how to add music from a CD to a website?

I already downloaded the file from the CD to my desktop.. But i dont know
where to go next.. I know alot about building sites and HTML , i just never
looked into the music part..any info would be appreciated..

1. Do you own the music? Do you have the right to redistribute the music?
2. I would refrain from having the music play automatically when someone
visits the site. What if the person is somewhere they do not want music,
like a library, at work, already listening to an aria? If you have rights,
then you should be using
<a href="music.xxx">Music</a>

You don't. You don't own coypright to the music. If you add it to your site
the copyright holder just may find out and sue you for breach of copyright
law. Did you not read all about the napster debacle?

If you contact the copyright holder they *may* give you permission to use
their music on your site. Make sure you get this in writing though.

Wrong way round. Give the viewer the option to turn in *on*.

Go to download.com or somewhere. There are any number of free/sharware sound
editors out there. Of course you will have to choose a format that your
viewer will be able to play and you have no idea what your viewer is able to
play.

probably the same as many others - to hit the back button.

* your crappy little noise suddenly playing over the top of my music
is not good. it is justifiable grounds for murder.
* its always crap. yes really.
* takes too long to download/wastes bandwidth/money.
* its much faster and easier to leave rather than stuffing around
adjusting my settings just to accommodate your site and then change
them back again when I leave.

I recommend removing any auto sound and asking the visitor to turn
sound *on* if you think for some reason your site needs it.

And here at work, I don't have speakers anyway, so it would be an

spaces... but only problem now is the file size.. (1059742 bytes)

i tried it in MP3 format , but then the space came back again... example :

even use? I do not have any software on my system to play an MP3. Even if I

He's making the point that many of your visitors may be in the same
situation, you ass. They would have to download your music and not be
able to play/hear it. These guys know what they're talking about (for
the most part) but I can assure you, you're last (very stupid) remark is

I actually have a more serious concern here.

Some of my friends actually are mentally retarded. This is not a problem for
them, they accept themselves for what they are and know that there are
'smarter' people out there in the world. They look forward to any help and
assistance that I might be able to give to them. They most of all value my
friendship.

To these friends of mine such a statement, the one the OP made, would be
considered at best to be in such horribly bad taste that it can barely be

You do not understand the point. Regardless of whether the person has
speakers or not, if the music is automatically downloaded to the users
machine, then it is a waste of time for the visitor, and a waste of
bandwidth for you.

How would you like it if you were forced to carry a 100 pound package, even
though you had no use for it, and did not ask for it, but the guy at the
local conveniece store said you had to carry it in order to walk into the
store?
