In case other run into the same problems, I stuck together a few tips
to get gem_server back and working in Leopard.

Instead of doing all of this, you can simply copy gem_server from the
RubyGems distribution, to /usr/bin.

Or create it yourself:

#!/usr/bin/env ruby
require 'rubygems/server'
Gem::Server.run ARGV
