[ANN] Ruby for Symbian Preview Release

J

Jeff Hughes

I'm pleased to announce the first preview release of Ruby for Symbian!

http://ruby-symbian.rubyforge.org/

* What is Symbian?

Symbian is an operating system developed specifically for mobile
devices. It has been deployed on a number of smart phones by
manufacturers like Nokia and Sony Ericsson. More info can be found at
http://www.symbian.com/

* What can this release do?

The project is still in its infant stages. The demo script only
demonstrates "Hello World," but most file IO, math and flow control is
operational. Notable missing features are threading, process creation
and sockets.

* Why such an early release?

I'm looking to see what features users actually want from Ruby on a
phone. The current roadmap is headed towards a "native" Symbian
application and libraries to access various parts of the phone
including bluetooth, contacts and UI widgets. Tell me what you think!
