What image map. If there is one there then it is broken :)
It opens a new window. Is that annoying?

Yes.

You are removing a choice your viewer has. Usually they have the choice of
viewing a new page in the same window *or* a new window.

Cheers
Richard.

Looks like you need to do it yet again. Just look at a few easily navigated websites then try to
copy their style.
I think I have finally fixed it up cute.

It's not *cute*. It loads slowly and the page is far too long.

None of the main menu links work at all, and those at the lower half of the page such as "Wallys
roaming rascals" do NOT open in new windows.
I don't know how fast my page is to dial-up users.

You can easily calculate that by adding up the file size of your gifs and images.

Some would think so, some others won't. Cater for both: leave opening a
new window to the user.

I do that so that someone can keep browsing while it
loads. I don't know how fast my page is to dial up
users, and I find myself making pages that are too
big, and trying again.

Most of your questions have been answered by others which I agree with.

However:
It opens a new window. Is that annoying?

No problem with me and the world outside of this group, it's your site and
if you want to force a new window, go for it.

Yes. Possibly the dumbest idea ever.

I do that so that someone can keep browsing while it
loads.

Hmmm.

A *web* site is not intended to be used by the author, thus the author's
preferences are irrelevant. It's the user's preferences that matter, and
since they differ authors should not force their preferences, leave it
to the user.

One minute 45 seconds.

If I wasn't timing it, I'd be long gone.

First: it is your site, you do what you want.
Second: do it again, and again, do not quit doing it again until you are
happy with it.
Third: You are learning, so learn.
Fourth: enjoy, (life is a learning experience, and when you quit learning,
yr dead.)
Fifth: congratulations on your year!
sixth: have a nice holliday!

(btw, I like GIMP too.)

On my computer anyway. It doesn't
take a second to load, and everything
works.

That's because it's on your computer and the information is taken directly from your hard-drive so
it's bound to be quick. Try downloading it via the web on someone else's PC on a dial-up line and
you'll soon see how long it takes.

The folders on you PC *should* be duplicated on the web, but they were not which is why the links
didn't work.
What I will do for those with dial up, is create
an optional entrance, with less images.

Excellent idea, but get those links fixed as well

Steve.

you can forget convincing him.

A correct definition of a pigheaded person, your point?

The discussion between him and you.

Maybe he thinks of you the same. Maybe he is immature in discussing a
subject. Maybe it takes a lot to convince him.

You give up too easily, IMO. And besides, you take my quote out of
context. My statement was "If you want to 'win' you can forget about
convincing him". Do you want to 'win'? Or do you want to convince?
