anyone with Java MIDI experience?

Has anybody developed a simple step-entry sequencer using Java? If so,
I'd like to know how to detect when the end of a sequence has been
reached, so that the sequencer can be closed, freeing the resource for
reuse. I tried comparing Sequencer.getTickLength() and
Sequence.getTickLength(), which one would think return the same long
according to the API, but actually return vastly different sized
numbers.
