basic auth causes page cannot be displayed error

hello everyone,

i have the basic authentication method selected for my iis settings. when i
navigate to a url using the local computer the login succeeds and shows the
web page correctly. however, if i try to login remotely, the login succeeds
but shows a "page cannot be displayed" error page. clicking refresh will
load the page successfully.

why would the server do this?

nevermind, i seemed to have fixed the problem. it might creep up again
later, so if anyone has a solid solution, please let me know.
