Well, this brave Honkong originated / America hosted team decided to
patent a common knowledge fact. Sometimes it happens (but rarely
works). In case if they decide to ask for their royalty from me I have
*my* working code of their "invention" officially registered on a CA
server since Nov. 1998
So I guess they are just thiefs of mine and of N of developers across
the globe (based on dates at least).

Still an occasion to remaind of copyright issue touched once at

Well when I first saw it I was shocked to see such a common thing to be
patented, :(. Since then I have been trying to do something around it
to get through.

Are you really having royalty problems with it ?!?
document.write(script tag) has been in use since JavaScript 1.1 (ever
since .src support). It takes a bit of time to find an open publication
(best of all printed one and published in the US) dated before the year
2000.

P.S. Recenty two "working perpetuum mobile model" has been patented -
eventually it was canceled in both cases, but the point is that patent
bureau is permanently highly overloaded. If you manage to make you
clame obscure and multiwordy enough, you have some chances to slip
through.
I'm not a lawyer, so I may be wrong, but my guess is that this patent
will be revoqued on the first attemp to apply it.
Also it is not a real patent yet - as I understand it's a file for
"original discoverer" protection (which makes thier position even more
vulnerable).

Well not yet. Probably would have to negotiate on this, in terms of
using it or not. Who is going to give them the Royalty.
It is such a common thing, I get pissed off whenever I see that.

I remember another thread
http://groups.google.com/group/comp...mp.lang.javascript&scoring=d#38548fc341a4e616

Which also talked about using this feature. This thread dates back to
Mar 3 2003.
I dont know how many more are there who have used this from a long
time.
