building a keyboard emulator with Java

I need to take joystick input and map it to key events. For example:
When I push left on the joystick, I want it to emulate pushing the
windows key so the start menu will pop up. Does anyone know how to
send key events to the operating system or how to write to the
keyboard buffer in java?
