[nastiness]

This is ridiculous. I've done nothing wrong! I asked an innocuous
question, got jumped on for it, called the jumper on his rudeness, and
have now been jumped on for THAT. What is this, Victorian England?
Children (newcomers) should be seen and not heard?

Piffle!

The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked.

Rudeness is being discourteous or otherwise making someone feel
unwelcome (or outright put-upon), and not (in most cases) simply asking
a question.

You're joking.

This newsgroup gets several hundred posts a DAY. My newsserver has
tens of thousands of posts for it. Google has literally millions.

I don't have time to read all that.

Learn to search it in Google, then, and [snip -- the rudeness gets
steadily worse from there]

And another person from the "rude list" weighs in with his unsolicited,
negative, nonconstructive opinion, more or less on schedule.

If I'd thought for a minute that a google search of this group for
"Cardassian aphasia virus" or similarly would have borne fruit, of
course, I'd have performed one. But the only word to use in a search
query that would definitely be useful here is "Lew", and that, by
itself, is clearly not enough since it will obviously find every single
post by Lew himself, plus every post by the apparent impostor, plus any
post replying to either, plus any OTHER post mentioning either for any
reason. "Lew impostor" would have worked, had I known already that there
was an impostor, but if I had I wouldn't have needed to ask the
question. Any other query you can think of either wouldn't have worked,
would have worked by sheer dumb luck without there being any way for me
to guess in advance that it might, or would have required me to already
know what I was seeking to find out.

Also, of course, if I'd thought for a minute that writing
> Okay. Which one of you wise guys infected Lew with that Cardassian
> aphasia virus? That's two posts like this and counting...

was going to somehow start a major fight, I wouldn't have bothered. It
was just innocuous, idle curiosity, with a bit of humor thrown in, but I
now know that innocuous, idle curiosity is not tolerated here and humor
is strictly /verboten/, so I certainly won't be doing anything like THAT
again! :-/
