can the cross-fade be improved? I was grateful to be able
to find the script on the Web at
http://slayeroffice.com/code/imageCrossFade/xfade2.html
I used it as is, for example at
http://cpacker.org/trees/arbviewa/xfade2.js
since the timing turned out to be
about what I wanted -- one image per second.
However, there is a brightness dip between images.
Can the transition be made smoother?

Yes, my Web hosting provider apparently has been having some problems.

Since I posted, I've been experimenting with the opacity parameters of
the script
and changing the hard-coded value 1000 to something else.
These changes vary the timing between images and the amount of
dimming,
but they're not independent and it's some kind of crazy recursive
algorithm that demands more careful inspection.
