Dear all:
I apologize for sending this mail to all of you, since this is nothing
about c language.
But I am really depressed when I open this forum and find a lot of
spam posting.
Can we suggest the maintainer of google group to design a spam-
forbidden program, like Gmail does, or we write this one on this
forum?

sorry to bother you,
miloody

This is the Usenet. Google Groups is just some way to access it, and
actually not a quite good one. Better get yourself a proper newsreader and
connect via a newsserver.

If you are having spam troubles, you should most likely switch usenet
providers, preferably to one that uses cleanfeed or something to filter
spam out. We catch an awful lot of it that way.

Google is a poor newsreader. My advice is to get a proper
newsreader (Thunderbird functions on many systems), select a
news-server, and suppress what you yourself wish. The following
presents a series of usable free newservers; there are others.

Some free news servers. I use motzarella and gmane.
<http://www.teranews.com> (1 time charge) (free)
<http://news.aioe.org> (free)
<http://dotsrc.org> (free)
<http://www.x-privat.org/international.php> (free)
<http://motzarella.org/?language=en> (free)
<http://gmane.org/> (mail-lists via news) (free)
<http://www.newsfeeds.com/signup.htm> (pay)
<http://www.individual.net/ (low pay)

The only real point to google is news access from firms that lock
out Usenet.

You're not the only one.

Google doesn't give two hoots about spam in Usenet. This is evident
from the fact that most spam in Usenet is posted using Google
accounts. Feel free to complain if you like. Fat lot of good it
will do, but it may make you feel better.

Google is a corporation and has all the malevolence that attends to that
appellation. That said, there kaptcha screen got hacked a while back, so
they might have problems with spammers having as many of their identities
as you can make with a computer, which would be a number exceeding the 4 or
so I have.
Better strategy - killfile all postings emanating from Google Groups
accounts. This is reasonably easy. It is true that you might
accidentally killfile a few sensible people that way, but the
probability is pretty low - and anyway, you can always mod them up
individually (as I do).

I'm in and out of clc, but this time around my killfilter has:

[*]
-10 Message-ID googlegroups
!delete Xref "0-day" "advocacy" "binaries" "conspiracy" "flame" "flonk"
"hacker" "kook" "ozdebate" "troll" "warez"

!delete Xpost %>3

[comp.lang.c]
!delete From {gmail|hotmail}

If you put the two Bushs together in their over seven years of their two
presidencies, not one new job has been created. Numbers do not lie. If you
extrapolated from that, if the Bushs had run this country from its very
beginning to the current time, not one American would have ever worked.
We'd be hunter-gatherers.
