cant run Java

chris

hello
Ihave been experiencing problems downloading web pages and applets due
to my Java download not working. This has happened since I installed a
version of Visual Stidio which when installed updated my Java files.
from that point i have been unable to download web pages or applets
fully. I have uninstalled Visual Studio and downloaded a new copy of
Java 2 Runtime, and even downloaded a new version of Service Pack1,
all of which did not solve the problem. I have checked the boxes in
Internet Options/advanced to "use java for applet" and checked the
boxes in advanced, browser and proxies tabs in the java console, I
have even manually set the addresses and port numbers in the proxie
tab, all of which have had no effect. I would be very grateful if
sombody could give me a clue as to what the fault could be
thanks

hi chris

im going through similar problems.
i use XP pro for till few months ago evrythin was workin fine then i
unistalled jre1.4.1_02 & reinstalled the latest version jre1.4.2 but
my IE stopped supporting applets, i have posted this problem here
before but no response.
i was surprised to see the error tag <alt text in applet tag>
it said "Your browser understands applet tag but for some reason it is
ignoring it" What on earth it means :D ?

in fact i even had problems unistalling jre1.4.1_02 ..... it was not
able to remove entries from registry, i had to remove with the help of
registry cleaner
heres wot u can try
1) install visual studio first (i know it installs MS version of JVM
(from ancient times) but bare with it)
2) install latest jre version & ur VM would be the newer one.

if everything fails,
dump IE itself , go for netscape or any other browser of your choice
that has support for applets :D
i did last one :D

regards
amey
