Catch error from BeanUtils.populate

How can I catch a "java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException" from
BeanUtils.populate?

I cannot catch in the action, because this happens prior.
A global error declaration does not work neither.

Any ideas?

Best I found myself is to use the error declaration in web.xml
