So Albert, your snake oil "validator" is perfect and the OP didn't
really have a problem?

Are you implying that I said that?
What was it - evil Finnish Pixies?

I don't think so... but you might want to re-read my messages.

If you want to know if a document is technically valid, then you can use the
included DTD based validator in the standard and pro editions of CSE HTML
Validator. Of course if you only use that, then you could be missing quite a
few issues that can't be found by a DTD based validator.

What "quite a few issues"? And why would you want a validator to pick these
up? I want a validator to tell me what's valid - pure and simple.

Many issues that aren't found by a DTD validator are listed here:
http://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval/whycseisbetter.html

This mess of a page is actually technically valid:
http://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval/whycseisbetterhtml.html

Most people would want to be aware of issues like those mentioned in the
above page, but if you only care about HTML being technically "valid" then
you could stick with the DTD validator in CSE HTML Validator or just use the
W3C validator.

Personally, I don't understand why someone who cares about validating
wouldn't also see the benefit of performing additional checks on their HTML
documents.
