Columns without tables

Hey,

I want to do the following with only div tags. It's not really tabular
data, but more so a design element. I need to do what this would do:

<table>
<tr>
<td></td>
<td></td>
<td></td>
</tr>
</table>

I'm using Strict XHTML 1.1. Any help appreciated.
