creating a new project to VS.net via ip address

I have a server somewhere and i was given the IP address..
I tried creating a new project using VS.NET
i typed in http://<ipaddress>/Webapplication
But gives an error relating to mismatch and access denied etc..
I have shared the wwwroot folder.
Any neccesary steps to be taken?
