datagrid looses colours

hi,

in the ItemCreated event of my datagrid i am setting the colours
of rows in my datagrid like so:

e.Item.BackColor = hypRequest.BackColor

my problem is that when the page is posted back to itself
(via an imagebutton) the rows all loose their colours and
revert back to white.

any help appreciated.

more info:

when the page is posted back the ItemCreated event is
called but e.Item.DataItem is always = Nothing.
