datalist within divs

hey all,
i have a datalist contained within 2 DIV elements. i'm using the outer DIV
to control the positioning of the inner DIV and was just wondering if the
elements of the datalist is going to be variable, how can i determine when to
stop scrolling to the right? (Note: i'm using hidden and not scroll for the
overflow in the outer DIV).
