DBD::Sybase : How to get rid of the 255-char limit on varchar?

I am doing a select on a table that has a datatype of varchar(1000),
yet DBI will only return 255 charcters since DBD::Sybase apparently has
this limit.

Are there other ways of retrieving the whole data?
