Does <a target="_blank" get a new tab or new window?

    <a target="_blank" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=...

    When I do the above in IE7 I get a second IE opened, but in FireFox I get a
    second tab.



    Is it possible which happens or is that built into the browser?
