I have a datalist that I subclassed and it has a usercontrol in the header
template, in the usercontrol is a databound dropdown. It loads fine and
posts fine unless I rebind the datalist, then the dropdown loses it's
viewstate. Someone please help their has to be a way around this.

Maybe I'm missing something but "databinding" is supposed to rebuild the
control meaning not from viewstate. Hence your loss of viewstate. If
you've posted and the change has been committed to the database, then your
rebinding will bring it to the same state as the previous viewstate, no?
