You don't have to wait until it's expired. You can transfer the registration
from your current registrar to Joker. Joker should be able to tell you how
to transfer a domain there - I would guess there is information on their
website about it.

However, if your domain expires in, say, a couple weeks, that might be
cutting it too close to change registrars. It takes a while for domain
registration transfers to work & you will often find that it's not possible
to transfer a domain that close to renewal time. In that case you would have
to renew with your current registrar, then transfer the domain to Joker
after renewing there. So it's best to do it as soon as possible.

Letting your domain name expire before renewing would be pretty risky!
Someone else might register the name before you can re-register it!

From my experience someone WILL take advantage of an expired domain
name and will register it for themselves, usually within a matter of
hours of the domain's expiration. I know 2 people who've lost their
domains (theirname.com) over the past 12 months because they didn't
get their renewal done before the expiration date. In both cases the
domains were registered by a company out of Australia and both have
been renewed for 12 years.
