Some of the responses in this thread have been exceedingly poor in my
opinion. Patrick asked a VERY simple question, and got a bunch of
irrelevant and/or computer-geek-machismo style responses. How about
_answering the question that was asked_? For example: "check out plugin X,
it adds this capability". Try skipping all the irrelevant and completely
absurd comments about how refactoring and the _particular method one uses to
copy/paste_ are somehow related.
Had you ever considered that D'n'D is a concept
more in tune with children's paint programs than
an OO computer language?
Have you considered that this is a juvenile and pointless response to a
perfectly valid question?
Rather than D'n'D you should think 'refactor', as
reused code seems to beg the question as to whether
the code should be in a utility class.
So you're saying refactoring eliminates all acceptable uses of copying and
pasting? If not, then this means that using right-click/copy/paste... is
also 'childish' since it and DnD-copy are _functionally identical_. The
only difference has to do with personal preference and the particular steps
taken to accomplish the task. Refactoring has absolutely nothing to do with
it.
And Patrick is right about DnD-copy being a standard feature in almost any
text editor these days. I can't remember (excluding Eclipse) the last time
I used one without that capability.
