  1. hope i will get some help here...

i can't get eclipse running after giving the VM more heap memory.
    # eclipse -vmargs -Xmx256M

    following lines are returned:
    *************************************
/usr/bin/eclipse: line 8: [: -vmargs: binary operator expected
    Unrecognized option: -data
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
    ***************************************

what am i doing wrong? what is meant by 'binary operator expected'.

    You can try the following:
    java -vmargs -Xmx256M -cp $eclipse_home/startup.jar
    org.eclipse.core.launcher.Main

maybe the "eclipse" binary cannot understand JVM arguments.

it works now, though there is still a error message to stdout. must be a
    bug...

  4. Hi All,
-Xmx<Number>M actually signifies the initial heap size for the program
to run. If you increase heap size. Lets say 300, it might work.

    Try as given below:
    java -vmargs -Xmx300M -cp $eclipse_home/startup.jar
    org.eclipse.core.launcher.Main

If this problem exsists, there are some situation when the projects
created using eclipse has lots of warning and error messages.. this
problem might occur. You can also see into this issue.

    Regards
    Vijay
