Jerry Manner

Hi

When I try to run a java program I get this error message:

No public JRE

I have the latest version of java on my machine.
java version "1.6.0_10"
java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java Hotspot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode, sharing)

Do I mis some java files on my machine? I have searched Google for the
error message but could not find anything helpfull.

You only needed to post the question once.

How did you install Java?  What's your OS?  Have you checked permissions on
the various files?  Is the Java bin/ directory in the PATH?

HI

The OS is Windows 2003. And the permissions are all open for
everyone.I have checked the PATh variable. I have no CLASSPATH
variable. Is the CLASSPATH variable necessary?
Here is the value of PATH:
Path = %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:
\Program Files\IBM\Director\bin;c:\lotus\notes;C:\Program Files\Java
\jre1.6.0_07\bin

How come you say that your Java version is 1.6.0_10 but the PATH includes JRE
1.6.0_07?

CLASSPATH is not relevant to your issue.

You repeated your earlier post verbatim without answering the question
that was asked in response to that earlier post.

I suspect that you removed Java 6u7 and installed 6u10, but because
the PATH refers to the now nonexistent installation you have trouble.
So what was the answer to my question?

OK, you can stop reposting this message over and over now.

Please stop doing that. Really, once is enough. Stop at once. Say
it only once. More than once is too many times for the same message.
If you say it once, we'll see it, really.

Meanwhile, you are ignoring the questions that come *after* your
repetitively repeated postings of the same message, for which once is
enough.

How about answering the *new* question, hm?

Is it true that the Java 6u7 folder no longer exists on your machine?

Hi

The folder did still exist on my machine. I found out what the problem
was. I made a typeerror in the pathname of the bin folder in the
Program Files folder.
In the first place I had C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07
and it should be
C:\Program~\Java\jre1.6.0_07

Probably on my system I need to use the ~ for long file names.

Again my apologies for the multi posting. I waited more then half a
day to see my posting thats why i did it repeatedly.

Thank you for the time and help.

Not necessarily. You can use double quotes:
C:\"Program Files"\Java\jre1.6.0_07

This is elementary Windows knowledge.

Sigh.

You use Google Groups, you have a responsibility to understand its limitations
and not inflict the damage on the rest of the group. What makes you think
"half a day" is enough time to wait, hm?

How about "that posts posted on Google normally appear on Google
within seconds, and rarely if ever take longer than one minute to show
up"?

An experience Groups user doesn't trust the "Your post was successful"
message on its face. I myself have seen, all too many times, this
message appear for a post that never appears, or appears in the wrong
thread or even the wrong newsgroup. When that happens, it clearly
needs reposting. One "successful" post I wrote *years* ago has still
not appeared anywhere, though its repost appeared almost immediately.
