Frames:
Go to example.com, then look at 'shoes' under 'latest fashions'.

Non-Frames:
Go to example.com/shoes_m23a_section/Fashions_July23_current.htm

No. That's 'm_23a' .... no ... that's 'm' as in 'mother' ...
23_asection/ .... oh, forget it ... this other site has them.

It's always fun to chose the most extreme example to fit your case ...
isn't it?

Sure it is, jake. But the above happens to be a rather poor URL choice. We
can change it to:

/shoes23/fash23now.htm

and suddenly it's a bit more usable.

Now find a frames situation that's as simple to solve as renaming the
directory names.

(Mind you, I'm not a huge fan of the "telephone test" - most people would
simply email the link anyhow, so it's a silly test.)

Well, Neal, change rf's original 'frames' scenario to: "Go to
example.com, then look at 'shoes' under 'latest fashions' .... and
suddenly that's a bit more usable.
Now find a frames situation that's as simple to solve as renaming the
directory names.

Show me a well-written frames-based site that has that problem in the
first place.

Well, that's the problem isn't it. Anyone can (and some people mostly
do) present extreme examples of an application and then put that example
forward as if it were 'typical'.

I have friends who use the Internet a lot, but, for some reason, instead of
letting me email them a link, they insist on hearing the URI spoken. One
of these people even calls me from the car when the answer to a question is
something he could _very_ easily look up himself. I would love to give him
the URI to
<http://diveintomark.org/archives/2003/05/05/why_we_wont_help_you> but that
would be an exercise in futility </sigh>
