Free/Cheap Server Advice sought

Hi, I haven't been in this group for a long time due to lack of time,
but a friend asked me for a favor. She is working on a site that she
wants to build for a specialized audience, it would be to help a group
of people with a particular need connect with each other. She doesn't
have web skills, and she doesn't want to wait until she has them to
post a site. (She'll learn along the way later.) Are there good, cheap
hosting sites that have decent site building tools for beginners and
reliable connectivity that you would recommend? She doesn't want a
site that includes ads so a "free + small fee to remove ads" is just
the ticket.

She also gave me a list of three that she wanted an opinion on, and I
said I'd post them. The five dollar a month range was about what she
thought was affordable, so obviously, this is more of a hobby site.

My friend did say that she's not sure about angelfire as she has had
bad experience clicking on Angelfire links, like they don't work or
something. (Perhaps she's been clicking on spammer's links?) So I
wonder what you all have to say about that. I'll keep an eye on this
thread for a little while, hope to get some quick feedback.

Thanks!

Send her to pagetutor.com and she can learn how to build a basic site in
about a day. It will save ALOT of time later on when she's frustrated that
her site doesn't work and she can't figure out how to fix it.

She still needs to learn how to make a webpage.

*He*. Still for GBP0.55 a month ... I can't *make* sash windows, but I
can fit them.

Gotta say I agree with Tina's post that your friend should learn the
basics of HTML so she can produce the site herself. If the purpose of
her site is to bring together people with a particular need then she
doesn't need anything fancy. Basic HTML can be learned fairly
quickly, lots of good resource sites on the 'net.

As for hosting, I've used AffordableHost.com for quite awhile and have
always been pleased with their service. A very basic account can be
had for only $25/year, or for $5.95/mo she can have an account with
all the bells & whistles she'll need for quite awhile.

I have to agree, with the other posts, if you dont know basic HTML its
diffcult to make a decent web site. You may want to check out

I just moved my sites over to A Small Orange -
http://www.asmallorange.com/services/hosting/

The support they gave me during the switch was great and I like their open
form of communication. Refreshing!

I wanted to say one other thing. There are many support groups online for
many types of support. Your friend may want to do a search first to see if
there may already be a 'place' for her group.
