We may have to agree to differ here. Client specifically requested to be
kept far away from all that webby stuff, just build me a web site please.

If a web site is to be built for commercial purposes, then while a
client may think they need to be kept from that webby stuff, they need
to either learn it in depth themselves or hire people who do. Also,
when they hire specialists, those specialists need to have editing
access to the code in question. something clients nno doubt fail to
appreciate when they request to be kept away from all that webby
stuff. Getting knee-deep in that webby stuff can make the difference
between success and failure for a site.

The fact that she can easily change her own content is a significant bonus.

More an irrelevenace if it can't be presnted in a manner that the
engines can properly index.

Same for the plumber client. He has no interest in being able to fix his
truck. He just wants to be able to load dunnies into it. Same for his web
site. He just wants to put in the words, the content. He's happy too

Not when it won't go, he won't be. Not when he realises that it can
only go round in little circles up some backwater alley, and not go
screaming down the information superhighway like he thought it could.

Same for the ski club over at http://mulubinba.com.au/ - they are there for
the skiing, not the web development, but they *can* use a "text editor" to
put their own content up.

Does the rest of the skiing community know the site exists? Can they
find it easily through the engines by typing in ski or whatever?

As others have said, it depends on the CMS. I set up a quasi CMS for
Holy Family. They can only edit pages that have "iseditable" in the db,
and then, they can only edit within the <div id="content">...</div>.
The H1 is done programatically, and they do not have access to it.

I made this CMS for them, and it's dead easy to use, but, for some
reason, they still send me edits, and I get paid for it, so what the
hey, eh?

Funny enough I just bookmarked that Smart Questions page
after finding it through another source today.

Hehe, if only more people read it _before_ posting A real timesaver to
thwack newbies with some clues, allthough the arrogance in the article
does not really sit well with me.
