how to update value of a template column.. which iz not linked with database?? * urgent

how do I update the value (Text property) of a template column .. for a
specific row?

My scenario iz that ka In begining .. I m showing a label for a template
column (which iz not linked with database @ that point)
- later when user clicks EDIT I m showing the dropdown listbox.. from which
user can select some value..
Now when user click UPDATE.. I should reflect that selected text of dropdown
into the label of Template column..

ne idea?
