Has anyone ever used HTML-Kit 292 ?
http://www.htmlkit.com/download/next/

I was looking around at various editors today.. I found TopStyle Lite and
another one called Simple Css and have been playing around with them... but
I also found the HTML-Kit292 that looks like it might be pretty good.

Any opinions on it?

Maybe you chased away all the speaking men and none of the 2 women use
it...

I use it daily. This is not WYSIWYG, but rather a full featured, fully
customizable text editor with hundreds of plug ins for just about
anything you could imagine. No nag screens or reminders, just free all
the way, no strings attached. Although it is no longer under
development, it's still way ahead of some of the newer stuff out there.

There is also a paid version called HTML-Kit Tools that is still a work
in progress with weekly updates. It is rapidly becoming my favorite
over the free 292 version. It's worth every penny.

Chami, the developer, runs the support newsgroups and personally answers
every question or problem in less than 12 hours, not bad for freeware.
There are many others (myself included) in the groups that will respond
sooner if we know the answer.

Try HTML-Kit 292, you won't be sorry.

I used 292 for years, and then when Tools came out, I paid for my
subscriptiong to 292 and downloaded the beta aka Tools (build 300).
As Saz says, it's worth every penny, and I use it every day.

Differences between 292 and Tools (build 300):
1. Code folding
2. Bracket matching
3. Projects
4. Multi-page templates
[http://www.cavalcade-of-coding.info/kit_multipage.php]
5. Open documents history (goes back quite while, a month or more)
6. HTML-Tidy built in
7. Lots of PHP plugins, including PHP beautify
8. Search and replace, with Regx, across document or files, or
directories

292 has more plugins, but a lot of the plugins were transferred into
Tools.

There is also a trial download of Tools:
http://www.html-kit.com/tools/download/

I highly recommend it.

Think I'll try the 292 version first. It looked like it would be alot of
fun to play with all the stuff it can do. Thanks!

I'm using HTML-Kit 292 for years now and am very satisfied with it.
Also I have translated the main menu into the Dutch language and doing that
I learned a lot how to use this excellent editor.
Together with TopStyle Lite for CSS is a good combination.
Chami, the developer of the Kit, has worked out a compleet new editor,
HTML-Kit Tools (version 300) and is also developping well.
And the price for Tools is moderated.

So I recommend it to you Jenn.

Thanks for the info, Gerard. I also downloaded the TopStyle Lite for CSS and
have been playing with that program, too.

When I was learning CSS and HTML I found it actually beneficial
to have as plain a piece of paper or text editor (like Wordpad)
as it is possible to have for the simple reason that there was
less to have to worry about or learn than CSS and HTML itself.
Once into actual website making and managing for real, then I
found some of the facilities (but not many) of the better editors
useful. Just my $17.65 worth. (Hey! My thoughts are not cheap and
I don't give them away freely.)

I did the same thing. I began using Notepad and then bought a program
called Ultra-Edit, which was just a color version, more or less, with a few
extras. That's about all I used it for, anyway. At work my pc has
Dreamweaver on it and the one thing I use it for, coding, it does have the
ability to give you tips, like the closing tag, or what attributes are
available.

Do you use either TopStyle or Html-Kit? I'm not wearing any rose-colored
glasses thinking I'm going to memorize all the possible styles attributes
available, so I was thinking it would be nice to have the TopStyle Lite to
play with, at least. :)

Hey.. if I give you a $20 can you make change? :D

Using a program like Dreamweaver you have to go an university to learn to
work with it.
<BIGGRIN>Working with HTML-Kit only primary school is sufficient. </BIGGRIN>

Jenn, that's great. You can find the HTML-Kit groups at news.html-kit.com.
If you have questions, post over there.

another question til I find that group ...

I'm setting up my favorites tab while playing with the different
functionality...

Using the insert image tool lets you conveniently search for an image to
insert and it puts the code in for you.

Like this:
<img alt="gimg728x90 (28K)"
src="/Documents%20and%20Settings/computername.US/Desktop/foldername/gimg728x90.jpg"
height="90" width="728" />

Is there a way to alter the order of what this inserts to like this:
<img
src="/Documents%20and%20Settings/computername.US/Desktop/foldername/gimg728x90.jpg"
width="728" height="90" alt="gimg728x90 (28K)" />

and set a relative path for all images before the image filename?

thanks....

Don't forget to replace the alt text with something more
appropriate. I have a small pill that can be taken (I take two
myself before marking up) that helps you figure what is right for
the occasion. Anyone who wants a bottle of 100 (trust me, they
work), please send $US24.75.

and set a relative path for all images before the image filename?

Surely not? But if there is a way from inside this editor, be
careful Jenn, it is way too smart a program and possibly
dangerous. Use it only when other people are around. <g>

It will do that if the file has not been saved, or it will do that if
the image is not in the same directory where the file is saved.

Usually, I have all the images in the same directory where the files
are, usually my directory structure is something like:

\clientname - the files that will go on the production server
\clientname\docs - for documents they may have sent me
\clientname\ufo - for editable images that are not jpg, gif or png
\clientname\sql - for sql statements that I have saved

I very rarely use an images folder, but if there are a lot of images in
different categories I might do something like:

\clientname\kitchen
\clientname\bathroom
\clientname\livingroom
