Is there any way to get a list of web applications running on a particular
server, and then determine how many active sessions on each application?

run perfmon.exe, hit the Add button (Ctrl+I) and under "performance object"
choose "ASP.NET Apps v1.1" and select the various session related counters
below that.

I need to do this programatically. If there is an app that does this, I
must be able to do it too.
