In IE the iframe box doesn´t even show, but it takes up space. In
Mozilla the iframe box shows with text and scrollbar.

The crappy coding could be done better using CSS.
Run it through the validator and you'll probably get a few dozen
errors.
Spans within an iframe? I don't think so.
Iframe coding should only include the bare basics. Height and width.
Css does everything else.
name="scroll"? Try using a name which is not a function.
No wonder IE won't show it.

In IE the iframe box doesn´t even show, but it takes up space. In
Mozilla the iframe box shows with text and scrollbar.

What do I have to do to get it to show in IE?

IE is known to have problems with very long URLs in some
circumstances. What happens if you try to open the intro.php?
text=...... page directly in IE?

Why are you passing so much content in the URL anyway? Whatever you're
trying to do, there's almost certainly a better way of doing it.

The crappy coding could be done better using CSS.

It is hard to believe you had to quote it all.

intro.php was:

echo $_GET['text']
?>

I changed it to:

<?php
session_start();
echo $_SESSION['text'];
?>

and the iframe call to:
$_SESSION['text'] = ...;
echo '<iframe src="intro.php" name="scroll2" ...;

In other words I sent the text with a session variable instead of as a
parameter.

Now it works in IE and in Mozilla.

The problem I tried to solve was to show some html (text and images)
in a scrollable area on the page. Please suggest better ways of
achieving this.
