insert text at cursor position in div

I've seen a lot of posts on this for textarea's and textboxes such as
here:

but does anyone know how to insert text at a cursor position in a
div? Or know where I can start looking for this?

With every knew advancement someone comes along and throws regression at it.

How about embedding a TEXTAREA inside a DIV, with styles that make it
appear as if it was not there?

Then instead of reinventing the wheel you can just use the functionality
from the URL you listed.
