insertBefore("<b>test</b>",some_node_thing)

Instead of having to use
document.createNode("b").appendChild(document.createTextNode("test")),
or whatever, as the first parameter to an insertBefore function call,
would it be possible to just create the HTML I want to use? Sort of
like document.createDummyNode.innerHTML = "<b>test</b>", or something?
