Is it necessary to learn ASP?

I hope this is the correct place to post this:
I am developing a web site for a e-commerce business I will be
running. The site I'm setting up will be 50% store, 50% content. I'm
not sure which shopping cart I'll be using yet (am looking at
os-commerce and miva) but the other part will be content. I will be
writing reviews of products, articles on the industry, and someday may
have some blogging and forums and advertising.
I read a lot ASP and my question, is ASP a technology I need to learn?
What is it mostly used for?

I have to add that I am not much into programming and I want a good
web site but most of all what is important to me is ease of use and a
easy to update web page. I will be using Macromeda Studio 8 to
develop it (dreamweaver and flash)

coldfusion is more modern than classic asp and simpler to use than
asp.net
Since when do "more modern " and "simpler to use" translate to better?

Especially since ColdFusion == Slow.

dreamweaver and flash integrate with coldfusion which is similar
technology to asp for generating dynamic content.

I suggest you look for some open source stuff. You can get complete
sites like you describe written in either ASP or PHP free. Googlge
will help you out.

ASP is a coding technology that's now a bit dated (ASP.NET is the next
step in the path...). If you don't want to be a programmer, nothing
says you have to. There are plenty of portal applications that fit
your needs, and you don't write code you simply use them. Most
hosting companies provide something along these lines as well. Take a
look at DotNet nuke, but have your host set it up for you.
