I've used AutoIt's COM interface in this role (via Ruby's win32ole library).

Kingsley Hendrickse demoed Win32::AutoGui at Euroko '06. Its a library
for Win32 GUI automation. But I think there hasn't been an official
release yet. But maybe you can get the code if you contact him directly.
