Our Client is seeking a qualified Java/PowerBuilder Architect who
would be responsible for design, documentation, implementation, and
maintenance of a foundational software layer for all information
systems at the Client's site. The right candidate must be able to
provide a long term migration strategy from PowerBuilder client server
architecture to n-tier java architecture. The individual will also be
responsible of the development, documentation, deployment and
maintenance of two mission critical software projects.
Background: Our Client has developed a comprehensive patient
information system known as
eChart. eChart is currently written in PowerBuilder 9.0 and Sybase
Transact SQL. In order to continue development of this system, the
Client's project requires an experienced Java/PowerBuilder Architect
to design, document, and oversee the development of n-tier software
architecture and provide a long term migration strategy.
2. Services Requested (Scope of Work): Qualified candidates will
provide the Client with a professional resource to work on projects
performing the following types of activities:
Design, develop, test, document and deploy enterprise-level Java
solutions to form the basis of information management.
Use UML to model and document system requirements, objects, and
relationships.
Implement a long term migration strategy that will allow the Client to
move from PowerBuilder client server architecture to n-tier Java
architecture.
Implement a software solution that will provide long term
interoperability between legacy PowerBuilder software and new n-tier
java projects.
Provide software architectural direction for Lead Java and Lead
PowerBuilder developers.
Implement infrastructure solutions that will provide an application
server, web server, source control management, project management,
issue tracking, and automated testing.
Train, mentor, and otherwise provide technical leadership to in-house
and other contract Java and PowerBuilder developers.
Oversee the development of an Electronic Physician Order Entry System
and a Patient Scheduling System.
Identify and Implement software components that are needed by multiple
projects and consolidate those components into a common layer that can
be used by all future projects.
Work must be performed on site unless otherwise approved by project
manager.
Completed work, communication / interaction with customers, co-
workers, and management, must be performed in a professional manner,
and can not hinder the progress, or success, of the project in any
way.
Requirements: Successful candidates will meet and exceed all of the
following requirements:
Object Oriented Programming and Design: Must have at least ten (10)
years experience using object oriented programming methodologies and
technologies.
PowerBuilder: Must have at least five (5) years experience using
PowerBuilder.
Java, JEE, and emerging Java architectures: Must have at least five
(5) years of Java experience. Preference may be given to candidates
with knowledge of Java 5 and JEE5, specifically generics, annotations
and JPA.
Availability: This is a full time position. The candidate must be able
to devote approximately 2080 hours a year to fulfilling this contract.
Holiday time off and a reasonable amount of vacation are allowed.
Communication Skills: Must have good written and oral communication
skills.
Teamwork and Leadership Skills: Must have at least one (1) year
experience leading a technical team.
Large Project Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with
experience working in a large software project development
environment, with multiple developers using source control.
Medical Software Experience: Preference will be given to candidates
with experience providing software solutions for a hospital or similar
environment.
Criminal Background Check: Must successfully pass a criminal
background check. Criminal background checks may be administered more
than once, and at any time during the contract period. Failure to pass
a criminal background check at any time during the contract period can
result in immediate termination of the candidate.
Production Support: The consultant must be available for off-hours
support of production systems.
