What is the difference between the two. Does the SKD have everything the
RTE has plus a compiler or is there more to it than that?

The SDK documentation has a picture and a list, right on the first
page. Read it.

JRE comes only with client VM. Server VM is not included. Therefore,
following would give you errors.

java -server com.yourcompany.YourClass
