JNDI and strong authentication

can anyone tell me what the "strong" SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION option is
meant to be used for in the context of the JNDI package?

I'm currently using "none" for anonymous connections to an LDAP
directory server, and "simple" when specifying username/password (with
and without ssl) but I haven't beeen able to find documentation
regarding when "strong" should be used. I've been wanting to do kerberos
authentication eventually. Is that when I would use "strong"?
