Job Opportunity for Software Engineers with Strong C++

K

Kristine

Is it safe to mention full time opportunities in this group for
Software Engineers with a strong C++ background? If so, I can provide
a detailed job description and details.

I'd say hardly any do, and that Kristine is the exception that proves
the rule. To be honest, because she was clueful enough to ask, if I was
in the market, and saw a job that her company was offering, I'd probably
pay it a bit more attention.

My paranoia says otherwise.

If you look at the website based on her email address, they are a
recruiter. However, if you look even closer, you can see that the web
site is a little strange. The only contact detail is the 8xx number so
you can't tell where they are located.

Then you see this "woman owned company", as if I should care ? If a
company is run by wombats yet provides it's services to my satisfaction,
it really does not come into my thinking.

I suppose point is, "be careful what you advocate".

The very fact that she felt it necessary to mention the sex of the company's
owner.. disqualifies her immediately.

I felt it necessary to reply. I did not mention anything about my
company being woman owned. Someone else went to the website, which I
had no part in designing, on their own to find this out. The position
for which I mentioned is not even with us. Correct, I am a recruiter
trying to find innovative ways to find qualified candiates for a
position I have available. I figured I would try and find the best. I
asked if it was OK to do this and have received several responses that
it is not. I thought I have removed my post.

Sure.. I meant ON the website.

ah.. but your site also mentions confidentiality. Which is something you
don't get recruiting from usenet.

I figured I would try and find the best. I

I figured that she was a recruiter. I've dealt with recruiters and
headhunters before, and they're not necessarily evil. Especially if
they go to the trouble to ask about etiquette (She may not have known
the location of the FAQs).

If her agency contacted me, or I got a Monster/Dice/CareerBuilder
referral to her recruiting agency, I'd have a slightly more favorable
attitude, due to her willingness to learn the rules here and not violate
them.

"Woman Owned" is SBA buzzword-bingo.

I have no issue with good recruiters either. They are few and far
between (IMHO).

Sure.

I would probably not be warm or cold about it.

It was me who went to the website. It would be the first thing I do for
any company I would decide to work with. I hope you don't think I have
anything against you or your company in particular because I don't.

Even if I was looking for a job, I would not send your company a resume
based on the web site. If you're hiring tech types, they're going to
expect that your web site to be "complete", not fancy, just "complete".

I expect a bricks and mortar address or a good reason you don't have
one. I don't mind if you're recruiting for Boston but you're located in
San Diego but I need to know where you are and what you do before I engage.

If you're looking for the "best", then expect that they are smart and
provide the appearance that they're going to be looked after once they
engage.

All these things are reasons I would probably pass on your company.

As for a good place to post, I use craigslist. The other thing that is
usually very successful is the current employees personal contacts.

BTW - get the hiring manager to put together 3 questions for candidates
to answer as part of the application process. Not only do you weed out
the chaff, the good candidates know that and usually entices them to
apply. Just make it so that the candidate does not have to spend too
much time working it out (10 mins max).

Good luck.

The best recruiting agency I have worked with thus far has no website.
Their website simply has a "coming soon" graphic.

Pretty much. Why have a web page in that instance? It doesn't take much
to put up the equivalent of a Yellow Pages ad. Company name, brief blub
about what they do, and contact information in the form of phone
numbers, mailing address, email if they have it.

Whatever. They're pretty damn good. Got me an interview with a pretty
large and well known company. Very professional, helpful, and with it.

So, you can judge a company based on their website if you wish but in
my opinion a website can be pretty good looking but the company run by
total flakes...and visa versa. I have experience that backs my opinion
as well.

I base my opinion of a recruiter's worth based on the positions they
are trying to offer me and their attitude. If they are obviously some
out-sourced phone solliciter who can hardly speak english looking to
fill a 1 month contract in Cambodia I tend to think they aren't worth
talking to. If they call up looking to fill full time positions at
solid companies within my general area I have a totally different
impression. The website is kind of meaningless in that light.

If you're happy with them then all the more power to you.

"Sad" is because they don't think it's worth the 2hrs/$300 or whatever
to put up a decent page. Then again, perhaps they don't want clients
like me.
