JS magic to enable PNG alpha channel on IE?

I have some graphics with transparent backgrounds that I would rather
have in PNG format than GIF, but I see that, after nine years, Microsoft
is still too lazy and/or stupid to implement PNG properly. However, I
have heard that there is a magical JS incantation that can somehow fix
this. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

or if that isn't satisfactory, just google for "ie transparent png
workaround" and you'll get plenty of information. Btw, IE7 correctly
implements transparent pngs.
