Kinda OT: Will XP/SP2 screw up Firefox?

K

I've seen quite a few posts here about XP/SP2 screwing things up in regards
to script. What I'm not sure about is if things get mucked up only for IE. I
rarely use IE.

I downloaded SP2, but now I'm leery about installing it.
Anyone here NOT have any problems with it?
I'd love to hear from people who don't frequent the MS boards. *grins*
So, I didn't post this over there. It'd be like posting "java sucks" to the
sun groups. *heh*

I haven't heard about any problems in other browsers. They don't use the
scripting engine in IE.

I don't[1] (this is because I don't use it ... or Windows)

[1] well ... except for the huge number of messages posted to the W3C
validator mailing list about IE uploading HTML documents and claiming they
are plain text (Its a MARKUP validator, not a plain text validator).

Not me, but I don't use IE much either. Only when I *have* to, and then
grudgingly.

Actually, I did have problems with anti-virus software. I ended up having
to reinstall XP and SP2, then install the other piece of software. I
think. My memory's a little foggy at the moment - it was a while ago.

I don't see what effect SP2 would have on Firefox, though. I doubt Mozilla
relies on anything that the service pack would affect. I don't use Firefox
that much, and the (few) bugs I've observed have probably just been
teething troubles.

I've had no trouble with Firefox under SP2.
I no longer use IE except on a laptop that doesn't have SP2.

I have both SP2 and Firefox with no difference of whether its SP2 or not.

Oh, dear. I have Norton...
Do you?
I also have a firewall. Zone Alarm. I hope it doesn't mess that up.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I'm going to ghost my PC before I install SP2, so I'm not massively worried,
but I am a bit leery.

I did, but I stopped using it when I first installed XP. My version was
old and wasn't compatible.

I now use Avast!. The problem was that the on-access service wouldn't
start and Windows was convinced I had no anti-virus software, unless I
installed SP2 before Avast!.

As Norton is better known, it probably won't exhibit problems, but a
backup never hurts. If things do go wrong, you might be able to roll-back,
uninstall Norton, install SP2, then install Norton again.

Hope all goes well,
Mike
