ListView checkbox pblm

Hi all..
i have a ListCtrl with say 20 items, each having a checkbox. At any
point of time, i do not want more than 6 of them to be checked. I
tried handling LVN_COLUMNCLICK and LVN_KEYDOWN messages, but they dont
seem to work in my case. Any suggestions??
