make changes on the local client machine

Hi Guys/Gals,

I need to setup an intranet site that will allow me to provide links to my
users that when clicked will execute code locally on the client. For example
I want to do somewhat what windows update does. I want to be able to copy
files to the local client, execute programs and scripts, make registry
changes and so forth. I gave it a quick shot but found that any code I type
into the webcontrol event handelers. was executed on the server (wich makes
sense).

What I was hoping someone can help me with is some direction to the
technology i should be looking into? is it simply client side scripting? is
developing an agent that installs locally on the client system that the
server can comunicate with and control?I am not sure which way to procede
and would really appreciate any ideas that you may have whether they have
been tested or not.

Thanks....
