Hello,
I want to make my software (A Chatting software designed using Java) a
freely downloadable software on the Internet.
How to do this?
Are there any websites which accepts such softwares?

Is it open source? If so, sourceforge.net and Freshmeat.org might be
good bets. Google for "download open source software". Any site that lets
you download software will probably accept submissions for new software to
add to their list.

Otherwise, perhaps Download.com. Google for "Download shareware" or
"Download freeware" for similar reasons as stated above.

Java WebStart (JWS) is the best way to distribute software,
as far as your users* will be concerned. One click and the
software begins installing off the net. Permission is sought
before the application (or applet) does anything restricted,
program updates are automatic.

* It is no little hassle for the developer to set-up.

See also Roedy's reply re PAD files, that is what search
engines and software download sites will prefer to find
out about your software..

Many hosts/sites are suitable for JWS launch, see Oliver's
reply for sites that might host the source code for you.
