Marquee question

It's not a sin to use flash and marquee, but it it is a sin to waste
your reader's time. The question you should ask yourself is, does my
reader have to wait unnecessarily to get to critical information
because of the effects that I have added? Time is money.

What about a stock ticker tape? While you do have to wait, it is the
accepted method. What about any Cable news. Along with the news being
watched, there is a "headline marque" at the bottom of the screen.
Almost without exception, those who use flash or marquee use it in this
sophomoric way, and that is why it is almost universally derided here.
At least that's my take on it.

As the should be. Most uses are bad. But for me, I see a few exceptions

TV has limited, fixed space. The Web doesn't. Don't try to impose the
limitations of an old medium onto a new one.

It belongs on Times Square, where there is a desperate shortage of space
to display it. Our pages can afford to be generous and we don't need
such unusable hacks.

I don't object to the existence of <marquee>, but I can't imagine a case
where it's a good thing to _use_ it, anywhere beyond a 7 year old's
birthday card.

I'm not imposing anything on anyone. Just pointing out some common
standards that may people people accept even if you don't.

And you are welcome to your opinion as I am welcome to mine.
