MCP means a person has passed on exam.
MCSD means a person has completed all five exams necessary for developer
certification.

Both of these can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/traincert

MVP is a professional award for people who participate in peer-to-peer
support, like this forum. You can find info at
http://mvp.support.microsoft.com.

Hi Cowboy,

While the MCSD for .NET requires 5 exams, the MCSD for Visual Studio 6
requires only 4. VS6 certifications will remain active even though the exams
themselves will be retired on June 30, 2004.

I'm sure it varies widely from employer to employer. MCP is a subset of MCSD
so I'm sure MCSD would get more attention than MCP. The MCSD might have more
knowledge and experience, although some very qualified people just never
take cert exams.

MVP is _not_ a certification. It's an award for peer-to-peer support, mostly
in online forums, based on activity in the previous 12 months.

MVP certainly does carry some weight with some employers, however. I know
this from personal experience.

What i was really asking was which one makes you more marketable assuming
you can study for one of them.

Yes you can study for the MVP.
