MCU programming tips

Hi,

I applied for a new job and first question will be: What techniques do
you know for memory efficient programming. I will have to program
µC/MCU controllers there.

I know of some, like storing bits on ints and such. Where can I read
about other techniques? Do you have any hints for me?
